Error visualizing lowest levels of data

Hello, I'm using VAPOR to visualize output from CM1 simulations. I can confirm that I have data at z = 25 m, my first model vertical grid level. However, when I try to create a contour plot for, say, reflectivity at z = 25 m, no data plots. In fact, my reflectivity will not plot until I do so for my third vertical level (z = 125 m). As for the "region" I set for my VAPOR analyses: it is centered on z = 500 m and is 1 km in vertical depth. Not sure if it's related or not as I've had the above issue previously and did not have the following error message pop up, but this error sometimes pops up when trying to plot other variables at z = 25 m (or variables at certain timesteps): "Session Save Error 1, creating Data Manager: Failed to read region from variable/timestep/level/lod (zvort, 72, 0, 0)" Any tips are very much appreciated! Not sure if I'm missing some trick/setting or if this issue is indicative of some problem in my creation of my VAPOR input files? Thanks so much! Best, Alicia

Hi y'all, I am using CReSS (Cloud Resolving Storm Simulator) data in VAPOR. Apparently the data file is in binary (.bin extension file) and I convert it to netcdf via CDO. But when I load the file I get this error message. "Unclassified error: Code: 1 Message: Error reading required attribute : DX" I am using Ubuntu 18.4 and vapor version 2.6.0.RC0

Hello I am using VAPOR3 to visualized WRF output.

VDC and data files are made using "wrfvdccreate" and "wrf2vdc" as below

> wrfvdccreate wrfout_d01_2016-07-05_06:00:00 test.vdc

> wrf2vdc wrfout_d01_2016-07-05_06:00:00 test.vdc

All is working fine, but flow visualization (streamline) does not appear in the renderer menu. Barb, contour, isosurface etc are all fine, but NO flow (attached figure)

Is it no longer supported, or my data handling misses something?

This is my Renderer menu

(I am using macOS 10.14)

Hello I would like to know if its is possible to import OpenFOAM data to Vapor. I did search for converters but couldnt succeed. I can convert OpenFOAM data to vtk (paraview) .plt(Tecplot) .cas(Ensight). It would be great if I could atleast convert any of these to .vdf. Thank you

Hi! I read here : https://www.vapor.ucar.edu/docs/vapor-gui-general-guide/streamlines-stea... that the length variable controls "the number of crossings of the data domain of a flow line before the integration is stopped". And I am wondering what that actually means for a flow line. Does it means that if a line meets a boundary, it is going to stop when length=1 ? And when length=2 for example, it will stop integrating when the line meets the boundaries twice? Thanks! Lily

Hi, I've used version 2 many times, but now I'm trying to get spun up on using version 3 with some climate model data on an unstructured grid (E3SM). I'm having trouble creating the vdc file. I get an empty file, but there's no error that something went wrong. It seems that the documentation hasn't been updated to reflect the new command line tools, so maybe I'm just using the wrong commands.

Here are the commands I'm using (shortened for readability):

cfvdccreate -force -vars CLDLIQ:LHFLX:TMQ test_case.cam.h2.nc test_case.cam.h1.nc test.vdc

cf2vdc -vars CLDLIQ:LHFLX:TMQ test_case.cam.h2.nc test_case.cam.h1.nc test.vdc

the output is just this:
Copying variable ilev
Time step 0
Copying variable lev
Time step 0
Copying variable CLDLIQ
Copying variable LHFLX
Copying variable TMQ

but when do an ncdump on the file there's no mention of the variables.

So what am I doing wrong?

I am trying to convert a tiff file to geotiff file following the instruction in the documentation page of tiff2geotiff. tiff2geotiff.exe -4 "+proj=latlong +ellps=sphere" -n "119.613 13.9975 122.388 17.8769" NE2_HR_LC_SR.tif test.gtif Results shows TIFFOPEN: test.gtif: Permission Denied. The WRF has RAINNC and RAINC variables in accumulated form. Is there any way I can show the daily rainfall (subtracting the RAIN of previous day) in Vapor directly?
