A (Re)Introduction to Earth System Data Science (ESDS) Across NCAR/UCAR/UCP#

ESDS is hosting a (Re)Introduction to Earth System Data Science (ESDS) Across NCAR/UCAR/UCP on November 10th and 11th (Thursday-Friday). This event will be hybrid, in-person in NCAR’s Mesa Lab Main Seminar Room and virtual over Zoom and/or Google Meet.

Please register to the event through the Registration Form by Friday, November 4, 2022!

The ESDS Fall event will cover a (re)introduction to the NCAR ESDS Initiative; include breakout groups and discussions on Python basics, packages, and analysis needs; and provide tutorials of the Geoscience Community Analysis Toolkit (GeoCAT)’s software tools on Thursday. The event will culminate in a hackathon, discussion, and forum on Friday.

Day 1 (Thursday, November 10th), Mesa Lab Main Seminar Room and Online:

  • Starred events are planned to have a “flipped classrooom” format, where participants will be asked to watch tutorial recordings ahead of time, and we will go over use cases, Q&A, and individual trouble shooting on each topic during its session.

Day 2 (Friday, November 11th):

    • Discuss registration form questions.

    • How can we break down barriers to participation?

    • Feedback on Day 1

  • 11:00 - 12:00: Hackathon projects and/or Discussion groups intro and setup

    • Form breakout groups

    • Get started before lunch

  • 12:00 - 13:00: Lunch break

  • 13:00 - 15:00: Hackathon projects and/or Discussion groups
