I'm occasionally finding that a previously working notebook looks different when I open it in JupyterHub. Certain cells are not where they used to be or are missing altogether. This is accompanied by horizontal grey lines (see attached) that are not markdown elements and cannot be clicked or removed (at least, I don't know how). The lines are telltale signs that something got screwed up. Does anyone else encounter such behavior?

I've been seeing this too, just in the past week or so.. Sometimes I adjust the size of my web browser window and the gray lines disappear and the code shows up like normal.. it is weird, though.
I opened an issue about the horizontal lines on github (jupyterhub) -- here is a discussion: https://github.com/jupyterlab/jupyterlab/issues/10840 I managed to fix my issue (see the thread) but it is pretty weird
updated JupyterLab to 3.1.10 per the conversation on Github.
