Topic: Looking for ""nao.obs.nc""
Orhan Eroglu (Jan 28 2021 at 17:43):
Hi all,
We are looking for a NetCDF file named ""nao.obs.nc"", which is used in NCL graphics example panel_9:
https://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Applications/Scripts/panel_9.ncl
https://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Applications/Images/panel_9_lg.png
We could not locate the dataset in Glade or some other NCL-related repositories.data storages. The script seems to be using two spatial variables "nao_djf" and "nao_pc_djf"
Does anyone have an idea where this file might be or if there is any other dataset we can finds these variables?
Thanks!

Hi Keith, thank you very much for your help!
@Michaela Sizemore or @Rose Craker could you please pull the file from the above location Keith put it in?
Rose Craker (Feb 02 2021 at 17:14):
Thank you for finding the file! I'd be happy to retrieve it, but I have never accessed CISL systems before. Since I'm working remotely, I'm not sure how I would be able to access it through a VPN or other means. @Orhan Eroglu or @Michaela Sizemore would one of you be able to teach me how to do this sometime?
Michaela Sizemore (Feb 02 2021 at 17:32):
@Rose Craker I'll get the file pulled for you this time so don't worry about it right now, but for the future, I usually use FileZilla with Cheyenne for file transfers which is outlined on the CISL website here: https://www2.cisl.ucar.edu/resources/storage-and-file-systems/filezilla
You are correct you will need to be on the VPN and I'm not sure if there are additional steps like registering for an account or if it is already set up for you via the CIT account info. But if you have any questions after going through those steps, feel free to shoot me a DM and I'll help you out!
Rose Craker (Feb 02 2021 at 17:41):
Thank you. I'll give that a try later.
