I'll be at today's meeting, but a laptop update is taking way longer than expected, so I might be a few minutes!
Woops! Not sure if that we intended wrapping up there. @Kevin Tyle can you invite Dylan to next week's OWG to give him a chance to share what he's doing and what he's interested in helping out with?
Sorry I had to leave and struggled withthe Zoom commands on mobile (it was my first time)
Were you able to just rejoin the call?
Yep, I rejoined and Dylan was there. I did invite him to next Tuesday's meeting and he intends to be there!
Hey ya'll - im out today and won't be able to make the infrastructure meeting
This coming Monday (2/20) is the Presidents' Day holiday. Since many folks may be taking the holiday, I propose we cancel the IWG meeting. The next IWG meeting will be Monday 3/6.
Any chance of a short-notice Hackathon planning meeting this Friday 2/17? We have an opportunity to get a funding request in to NSF for our summer event but time is extremely short. I will be at NCAR Mesa Lab and available any time starting 10:15 am MT. @Kevin Tyle @Drew Camron @Julia Kent @Max Grover and anyone else interested.
I have a lunch appointment at 10 AM MST. I imagine I would be back no later than noon MST.
I won't be in the office Friday but am glad to meet virtually. Easiest for me before noon, but I have some scattered hours after. Julia is out of town until next week I believe.
@Drew Camron whats your best afternoon meet time Friday? It would be great to get at least you, me, and @Kevin Tyle in a zoom chat. I’m going to draft a short blurb about our event that we can iterate on during a Friday meeting.

My 2 pm could be rescheduled.
@Drew Camron @Kevin Tyle How about meeting at 1 pm MT today? Sorry about the late notice / confusion, just getting settled at the Mesa Lab this morning.
Works for me! I will spin up the usual Zoom room at that time. I hope you are enjoying the view, @Brian Rose !
Yeah, that works for me as well!
Great! see you both then
that works for me too - happy to join in :)
@Kevin Tyle @Drew Camron @Max Grover please have a look at page 2-3 of this doc, which is my attempt at a coherent workshop proposal to send to our contacts at NSF. Please make suggestions or edits on the doc, and be cognizant of length -- trying hard not to go over two pages here :-)
It looks great @Brian Rose !
I won't be able to attend today's IWG meeting as I need to pick up my husband from his cataract surgery at the time of the meeting. @Brian Rose @John Clyne @Drew Camron @Julia Kent can one of you please man the helm? I will take care of putting the agenda together.
@Kevin Tyle I can chair today's IWG meeting
thanks @Brian Rose !
Best of luck with the procedure!
@Drew Camron @Max Grover @Julia Kent I might be a little late for today's OWG call. Bryan's follow up appointment with his eye doctor is running late.
Alejandro and Anne from EDS book might be joining us today. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Pd0J2Yglo9IIMozfpKD7bo4HhbTCCZ5KK0K4ZdMNqSs/edit#slide=id.p1
i'm in my office so will see you shortly!
Sorry I missed today - visiting our field site in Oklahoma
No worries!
Sorry I had a complete schedule fail this morning and missed the Outreach meeting!
Kevin and I had a productive but short meeting with Taysia. We added a link to Taysia's folder (and the sign up form responses) to our Pythia drive, drafted our response email, and learned that we need a concrete agenda by the end of May for the UCAR audio visual team.
How are the numbers looking?
14 and counting
I am going to be out of office and mostly off-grid from Wednesday 5/24 through Friday 6/9. Hopefully we can use the next OWG meeting on 5/16 to make detailed action plans and make sure things are on the right track.
I'll put multiple redundant reminders for myself into my calendar...
I will also be out of the office from Thurs. 5/18 to Wed. 5/24, and then Sun. 5/28 through Wed 6/14 (out of the country for this latter trip!)
Enjoy! We'll plan accordingly
I'm taking today off so I'll miss the infrastructure meeting.
I will miss today because of the NCAR CISL on-site. Here is the event run of show: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1y26gHon6ipAj0r4gD1KELlAjpF7LSG6lPUpjKjn2BaU/edit?usp=sharing
I'll be on PTO or asynch-only for much of this week. Please let me know if I can provide any feedback in meetings this week, otherwise thanks again y'all for a great hackathon. I hope travels went safely
I also will miss the OWG tomorrow. I think we need to tweet out something about the Cookoff and later review the exit survey statistics. Great job putting together the hackathon everyone!
Travel was smooth! Such a great week last week!
@Max Grover @Drew Camron @Ryan May When are you arriving in Austin? I am getting there this (Saturday) evening. I am bringing stickers! Safe travels!
I get in Sunday at 4:40 pm CDT! I think Ryan gets in a few hours after me on Sunday, later that night
I fly in tomorrow a little before noon!
Do we still want an OWG today? it seems like you will all be out
I think all of us will be in tutorials this morning! Thanks for checking
AGU abstract deadlines are coming up. Is anyone hoping to attend?
@Drew Camron could you please set up some more dates to our EWG Signup Genius space? Looks like the last date was 7/3.
Yeah, I'll mention that today and can extend the signup
Ok, are you going to be the facilitator today? (I'm happy to as well)
Yep! I'll facilitate today. I will pick on someone to take notes though
Thanks for signing up @Kevin Tyle. Other folks, please do sign up to facilitate and take notes at future EWG meetings! Given that we have a unique structure for our next meeting, I might end up talking much of the time once again on 31 July. Be ready :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Sorry it's taken me too long to figure this out, but I will be attending AGU Fall Meeting 2023. I'm happy to represent Project Pythia there. I think it's important that we have representation and not lose the community momentum that's been building.
I'll have a draft abstract to circulate amongst the team by sometime Monday.
Also available to present on Pythia in a second session
Do you want to share a document for our abstracts so we can see the direction we are both going in?
Sounds useful! I haven't started drafting anything yet though.
Do you know what direction you're going in?
I wrote an abstract for the Voices from Open Science session: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HGL9zLX6oqbI0vYiauSYngCPDyrsywIKflgZRIkoFg8/edit?usp=sharing
Great job @Julia Kent ! I will have a few wording edits to suggest later today or tomorrow morning. This is a great fit for the session!
Thanks Kevin!
In the same document, I'm working on a second abstract to be submitted to this session: https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm23/prelim.cgi/Session/191741
I plan to describe the Cookbook initiative and the future roadmap, drawing from themes in our recent NSF proposal.
I'll ping people here when the second abstract is ready for some eyes on it.
Abstract #2 is ready for eyes now. Title is "The Project Pythia Cookbook initiative: Building an inclusive geoscience community through accessible, reusable, and reproducible workflows"
@Julia Kent I'm done with my edits of abstract #1
Thank you!
Unfortunately your additions put us over the character limit again, so I'll have to take some out - trying not to remove the clarity you added.
ahhh sorry! I wondered if that was going to happen
@Brian Rose abstract #2 looks great ... I just responded to your question and added one comment.
Submitted! Oh and spaces don't count in the character count, so I wasn't over (but I already trimmed it a little)
Thanks y'all for this hard work!
And AMS abstracts are due Aug 24, so we can discuss that in a bit
Just got my room for AGU :)
Missing today's OWG due to the Day of Science event.
Are we on usual schedule for next week's EWG? When are we looking to put the new schedule in place?
Yes, let's plan on our regular meeting time(s) until we've completed the poll, and had some further discussion about when to kick things off.
@Brian Rose can you facilitate today's EWG? If not I'll help pick someone. I'm last-minute medically out today. I will provide updates on the review process either async or at IWG next week.
Shout out James for pointing me towards this PyOpenSci software peer review process for a perfect starting template for us.
Hi @Drew Camron yes I can do that.
Thanks a bunch!
The agenda for today's meeting is live. Please try to review and suggest topics in advance. Thanks!

Hi John! Unless we're stepping away from the facilitator schedule as we head towards the new meeting rotation, I was previously signed up to facilitate today. I can leave that to you if you'd rather, but I also don't mind.
@Drew Camron I think that John is going to use today's meeting to discuss the details of the transition to the new meeting format and schedule.
Sorry, @Drew Camron . Should have double checked. Thought we were without a facilitator today
No problem! Sounds like we will be spending most of the time on this topic anyway :grinning:
