VAPOR's three global tabs: Viewpoint, Region, and Animation
Three of the tabs in the VAPOR GUI are global, in the sense that the settings of one tab can apply to some or all of the visualizers. These tabs are Viewpoint, Region, and Animation. Each of these tabs has a Local/Global scope selector at the top, that can be used to determine which visualizers are controlled by the tab. The Local/global selector has no effect unless there are multiple visualizers being used.
By default, all three of these tabs are set to Global, so that their settings will be shared across all visualizers.
When the scope is Local, the settings in that tab apply to only one visualization window (the one that is currently selected). When the scope is Global, it applies to all the visualizers that do not have Local scope set.
For an example, suppose that you have three visualizers. The first and second visualizers are to use the same viewpoint, viewing your full data, but you would like the third visualizer to zoom into a small feature of the data. To set up this configuration, first click on the third visualizer, making that the current selected visualizer. Select the viewpoint tab. On the Local/Global selector in the viewpoint tab, select "Local", so that the values in the viewpoint tab now are unique to the third visualizer. You may note that you can rotate and zoom in the third visualizer window without affecting the viewpoint of the first and second visualizers. When you rotate the first or second visualizer, you will note that the two windows will share the same ("Global") viewpoint, but not affect the Local viewpoint in the third visualizer.
Similar use of the Local and Global scope in the Region panel allows for region extents to be shared between visualizers or unique to one visualizer. Using the Local scope in the Animation tab enables the time step in the associated visualizer to be independent of the time step in other visualizers.
