CUDA and VAPOR
Hi All, I am setting up VAPOR on a 64 core server with 2 video cards in it. I have installed the drivers for the cards and CUDA-8.0. Is there an installation flag or a specific way I have to setup VAPOR to have the program utilize the GPU's? Thank You, Marshall Stageberg

Hello Stageberg,

I don't think VAPOR currently makes use of any CUDA capabilities. That said, it makes use of traditional rendering capabilities of a graphics card. As a result, you want to make sure the graphics card drivers are installed correctly, instead of CUDA drivers.

Best,

Samuel

Samuel, Is there a specific way I need to install vapor for it to recognize the existence of the video cards so that it does use them? The current install I have done doesn't seem to be using the cards. Thank You, Marshall

Hi Marshall,

You don't need to do anything for VAPOR to make use of the video cards. In fact, many visualization functionalities are carried out via the graphics card. If you don't run into errors seemingly graphics related, it must be using it.

Samuel
