When VAPOR is installed, several useful georeferenced images are provided. These include:
BigBlueMarble.tms : A high-resolution (2km) view of the earth's terrain from the NASA BlueMarble image. With this image, the world's oceans can be made transparent by un-checking "Ignore Image Transparency" in the Image panel.
USFilled.tif : A map of the US states, with all state interiors colored.
USOutline.tif : An image of the boundaries of all the counties and states of the U.S. State interiors are transparent, when "Ignore Image Transparency" is unchecked.
us_states.tif : An image of the boundaries of all the states of the U.S. State interiors are transparent
worldFilled.tif : An image of all the nations of the world with the nations (and the US States) colored.
worldOutline.tif : An image of the boundaries of all the nations and of the US states. Interiors are transparent
Click on the button "Select Installed Image" to choose one of these images.
When one loads one of the world images into the VAPOR Image tab, only the portion of the image corresponding to the current horizontal image extents at the current time step is used. When using one of the world maps for a moving domain (e.g. a nested domain tracking a hurricane trajectory), then one should extend the image box in the image panel to include the full trajectory of the hurricane, prior to loading the image.
When loading one of the local (U.S.) images, the full extent of the image is loaded. Click the button "Crop to Bounds" and adjust the horizontal Image box extents to limit the extents of the displayed image.
Higher resolution version of some maps are available from download here.
