Description

The temperature is adjusted for the time lag related to the sensor time constant. The time constant is a function of the sonde ascent rate and the density. An empirically determined relation for the sensor time constant, as a function of pressure and ascent rate, is used.

The series is first smoothed using the temperature dynamic correction smoothing wavelength. This smoothed series is used to compute a time tendency for each data point. Each observation is then adjusted by adding to it the product of the time constant and tendency.

Formula

At each point in the temperature series \(T_{adj}(T_{orig}, TC, wavelength)\) is calculated as:

\(T_{adj} = T_{orig} + TC \times lapseRate\\\) where: \(TC\) is the time constant of the point

\(lapseRate\) is the first derivative of a Bspline fit of the temperature series using the given \(wavelength\) (Aspen config parameter TdryDynCorWL).
